I'm Your Dad

Port of Portland

She furrowed her brows at him. "What do you mean the car isn't yours? What about the suit? That yours? Or did you rent it for this special occasion?" Chick shook her head and decided to forget about the aux cord while turning the volume up on her phone so they could both hear the announced directions.

She was nervous but tried her best to hide her, maybe letting her snobby confidence shine a little too bright, but it was a facade mostly for her. She fidgeted with a loose thread on her pants, twirling it in her fingers while she watched the arrow on her map slowly move along. "I'm from Chi-Chicago, actually," she hesitantly gave in to his tease, Fingers slid her sunglasses to the top of her head causing her to squint for just a moment until her eyes adjusted.

Nox glanced over at her, a crooked grin still lightening up his features. "It’s borrowed." Rent-A-Car was borrowing something, right? I mean, it wasn’t like it was his and he was going to give it back. "Everything else is mine though." He may have chose the van life, but that didn’t mean he lacked in a decent selection of clothes. He just liked the idea of being able to get up and go anywhere any time. Nothing was holding him back.

Chick started to fidget. It was a reaction he was used to when nerves were starting to get the better of someone. So was it all false bravado? Maybe he would find out later tonight. Then came the hesitation. The stutter. "I could see that. You have the attitude for it. So why Portland?" Because Nox was naturally curious. We was good at conversations and (usually) good at making people comfortable.

Chick watched as the neighborhoods out of her passenger window slowly dissolved into factories and other industrial buildings. Smoke stacks poured out of chimneys, large trucks made their way down the narrow streets, and smells of the water grew stronger. "It's easiest if you turn right at the next light,," she pointed out, using a ringed finger to show the way.

"Portland has a slower pace," she explained, sitting rigid in her seat, "and the nature is always a plus. I'm rough around the edges, glad to see you can keep up, Penguin." Chick crossed her arms over her chest and looked down at the phone in her lap.

"Once you turn right, make an immediate left."

Their conversation fell silent, Nox comfortable either way. He had to admit that he was curious about this one and the job she had for him. Nox was no body guard, but he watched enough moves to see what was required of him. That and if he let the feline through a little more, perhaps it would help him out a bit. Orrr..... Maybe he could eat everyone.

He followed her directions, slowing the vehicle down at each turn, loving the sound of it down shifting in the process. "Mmm," he seemingly purred as she spoke. "Penguin"? That was a first. "I think that it's all just a hoax. Like some sort of armor and not really you at all," he mused lightly, making a right and then a left at her request. They were coming up on their destination soon, and he could feel himself slipping into this persona that she needed him to be.

Chick sat a bit straighter in her seat, arching her neck to get a good look out of the low riding car. But as soon as she processed her escort's words, she jerked her head around and scowled at him.

"A hoax? Alright, settle down there, James Bond," she shouted dramatically, "Your pay is getting cut. Keep it up and I'll take it away by the tens," she threatened, though mostly a harsh tease. Chick sighed heavily and shook her head. Now wasn't the time for jokes and teases. Who did this guy think he was? Snarky farty boy.

"There's an auto factory coming up on your right hand side, park somewhere in the back," she instructed, already unbuckling her seat. "We'll be going on foot from here." Speedy fingers gathered her back, shoving her phone inside one of the pockets.

Nox snorted, his feline shifting uncomfortably at having to sit still for a lengthy amount of time. "Mmm. You need me too, otherwise you wouldn't be getting more and more nervous the closer we get. Don't worry, I got you covered," he said, shooting a wink her way whether she was looking at him or not.

A soft sound clicked in the vehicle and the dashboard started to ding annoyingly as she unbuckled her belt.

The Mercedes purred as he followed Chick's instructions and drove behind the back, taking his time to check out the building as he went. Honestly, it was nature for him to assess his surrounding even with him being as carefree as he was. It was all a part of his shifter life. If he didn't, then the chances of getting killed were infinitely higher.

He parked the car few spots away from one of the building's flood lights, before unbuckling his seat belt and getting out. He straightened his suit jacket, looking around the place, focusing ever shadow the building cast. The vehicle seemed to melt into them, shining only at a certain angle. Nox said nothing as he walked around the vehicle toward Chick, eyebrows raised in question, his leopard taking it's time to stretch each joint and limb it had beside him.
